7/10/2023 0 Comments Sjw struggle session![]() Most people forgot but Jin-Woo refused to participate in the Jeju Island raid because of his mother, while I understand that no one actually expected a monster like Beru to show up in the island, Sung is the living proof of the saying "anything can happen inside a dungeon" that is know to all Hunters. I totally agree with the part of his mother waking up. I really thought he would struggle even just a bit with their fight, not because he wasn’t strong enough but because Thomas was deemed as one of the strongest hunter in the world too, not to mention, a vessel of a Ruler as well, so I was dumbfounded when it ended in just one chapter haha Is he really the strongest among everyone? Surely there must be at least one being who can match his strength? Who might that be? and other questions along those lines.(〃 ̄∇ ̄)Įdit: while his fight with beru, for me, was enough, (i believe that part was to show the other characters + readers that SJW is THAT strong), I do agree that his fight with Thomas should’ve been more challenging. Usually, when you get too used to the MC getting their way, you get complacent-which gives me that “uh-oh wait a minute” feeling because it’s kind of like the calm before the storm, and the anticipation becomes more adamant. Oohh I get what you mean, but also, it’s what made it more interesting (at least for me). Making him overpowered now was a choice that didn't need to be made to keep the story consistent. Had he really struggled there, he would've continued to accrue power and scale up until he matched the monarchs. He could have continually progressed and struggled until reaching such level, that way his fights against Beru and Andre (to mention only two) would be that much more interesting. But he didn't need to match them just yet. That is: "SJW is strong like that because he is a monarch himself and he has to match the other monarchs". Thoughts?ĮDIT: I read all responses and I appreciate them, so I want to address the main justification that I saw for the author to have done this. In short, I think the story kinda falls apart around the halfway mark. Now he just seems like he's trying to understand a mystery, and that took away all the personal weight that seeing him level up had in the beggining. SJW basically became Saitama from One Punch Man, but without the well-developed supporting cast to sustain the story.Īlso worth mentioning that after his mother woke up from her sickness he seems to lack the powerful motivation to become stronger that he had before. The story still manages to keep some level of interest because of the mystery of rulers v monarchs, threats to SJW loved ones and similar things like that. He outpaced the strength of his foes, even newer ones. ![]() I think that after SJW defeated Baran (perhaps even a little before that), he basically never truly struggled again in a fight. You up the stakes and keep every new fight a difficult one. Usually in japanese shonen you deal with your MC getting stronger by making their foes become stronger as well. Solo leveling takes a very unusual approach when handling power creep that turns out detrimental to the story. Just wanted to see if others felt the same way but.
